Apple’s Solution For iPhone 4 Signal Issues | Free Cases For All

iPhone 4

Apple held a press conference this morning to discuss signal issues with the iPhone 4. While many people were hoping for a recall, Apple gave its own “solution”. Steve Jobs announced that current iPhone 4 users will receive a free case from Apple. And those who already bought a Bumper can take their receipt back to the nearest Apple store for a full refund.

Steve Jobs spent majority of the press conference defending the signal issues on the new iPhone and stated that “every smart phone has this issue.” He even went as far to say that replicating the “death grip” on the Blackberry Bold, Droid Eris, and Samsung Omnia II causes the same signal issues. As expected, RIM and Nokia have responded to these careless statements.

It’s a bit ridiculous that Steve would make this statement since it’s not a wide scale problem on all of the above mentioned phones like it is on the iPhone 4. And it’s even more absurd that Apple is now comparing the performance of their most “revolutionary phone” to other smartphones that they have previously labeled as lesser quality.

I think it’s safe to say that Apple has lost a lot of credibility with consumers thanks to the way they’ve handled the issues with their latest phone.

iOS 4.0.1 Download Available (Fixes Signal Display Issue)

iOS 4.0.1

Apple just released it’s first update for iOS 4 which “improves” the accuracy of the signal strength displayed on your iPhone. *Also part of update 3.2.1 for iPad users*

Don’t be misinformed, this does NOT correct the actual signal strength issue that has the entire iPhone 4 community up in arms.

On that note – AppleInsider just posted a public letter sent to Steve Jobs from US Senator Charles Schumer, criticizing the iPhone 4′s signal issue and the way Steve Jobs has handled the situation thus far. Schumer strongly encourages Steve Jobs to publicly acknowledge the issue and offer a remedy to current iPhone 4 owners, free of charge.

UPDATE: According to Gizmodo, Apple is holding a press conference tomorrow (July, 16th) at 1PM EST to make an announcement regarding the iPhone 4.

Consumer Reports Does NOT Recommend iPhone 4

iPhone 4

Believe it or not, Consumer ReportsĀ does not recommend Apple’s latest iPhone. This is due to the iPhone 4 having major reception issues caused by the antenna being located around the side of the phone. When you cup your hand around the side of the phone, just as you would with any cell phone, the reception drops from 5 bars to 1 bar or “no signal”. Many iPhone 4 owners are plagued with this problem.

I recently took it upon myself to go into my nearest Apple store to do some of my own testing and to my amazement, within just a couple seconds of covering the antenna with the palm of my hand, 3 out of the 4 phones experienced a signal drop from 5 bars to no signal at all. Cnet recently ran a similarĀ signal test as well.

I guess I can’t be surprised that the first of many class action lawsuits are stirring up against Apple.
